This is the perfect camp for kids who love to make music with other kids (and who doesn’t?) who are looking for their first experience in chamber music.  Students will be grouped by age and ability to play great, age-appropriate, music.  Playing in ensemble teaches many of the most vital skills of musicianship including steady pulse, excellent rhythm, good listening skills, intonation, balance, expressive playing and performance skills.

Each 3-hour day will be broken up into different classes including warmups/technique, group rehearsal, musicianship games, listening/watching the great artists, and private or semi-private lessons.  The music will be handed out well in advance so that each student will have an opportunity to learn their part and come to the camp ready to rehearse together.

Chamber Music Faculty:

Wendy Kuo is an experienced collaborative artist who has long sought to include ensemble playing in her teaching.  As a chamber music coach with Austin Chamber Music Center she used fun teaching techniques to bring out the best in her students while helping the students develop independent leadership skills within a group.  Her commitment to collaborative learning is one of the main reasons she founded Orpheus Academy of Music so that she could provide a consistent opportunity for her students to engage in chamber music.

John Beard received a BM in performance from Indiana University, a MM at the University of Maine, and completed further doctoral work in viola, theory and conducting at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. His major teachers include William Primrose, David Dawson, Robert Gerle, and Vidor Nagy. Mr. Beard has served as an Adjunct Instructor in Upper Strings Orchestra at the University of Wisconsin Marathon County, has been a Minnesota Artist-in Residence for the St. Francis Music Center, and a teacher and coach for the D.C. Youth Orchestra Program.
