Laura Wascom is a native of San Francisco, California relocating to Austin, Texas in 2006. Trained originally as a concert pianist, Laura holds degrees from Indiana State University, the Brevard Music Center , and Louisiana State University . An active educator, she currently serves on the piano faculty of the Orpheus Academy of Music and has previously served on the full time music faculties of Austin Lyric Opera, Indiana State University and Southeastern Louisiana University. Laura has helped students develop from elementary school beginners into exceptional young adult pianists. As a professional composer, she emphasizes each student finding their own creative voice and musical gift. One of the greatest privileges Laura enjoys while in Austin is being able to work with students involved in the arts in middle school. 2008-2009 included the composition of an original Christmas musical as well as directing a production of the Lion King, all targeted for the middle school aged child. Laura is an active recording studio and touring musician having worked with record labels including Genarus and Sony and is anticipating her first independent solo album release this fall. |
