The guitar is cool. Playing the guitar is cooler. At a young age, in a desperate attempt to be cool, Nicolas Hurt started playing the guitar. He found that it was cool to kick and jump while playing loud power chords. After years of practice, these antics eventually got some acclaim. His middle/high school rock band won The Austin Chronicles Poll for Best Kid Band three years in a row as well as winning the Austin Music Networks Battle of the High School Bands. Ears still ringing, Nicolas put down the Stratocaster and picked up his grandmas classical guitar. After a dose of diligent work with local teachers Kim Perlak and Klondike Steadman he was able to pick and choose amongst the top guitar universities in the country. He chose to stay in Austin and study with the great Adam Holzman. Time with Holzman allowed Nicolas to travel the States as well as Mexico and Italy to play concerts and participate in master classes. He is still at the University of Texas working on a degree in Audio Engineering. Nicolas also teaches extensively around Austin, privately and at Orpheus Academy of Music, as well as with the National Guitar Workshop in New York.
