MOTIVATION, GOALS, CREATIVITY
The Musical Journey motivates students with clear goals and fun projects. It consists of 8 levels. As students pass each level their skills reach new heights, their confidence grows, and their curiosity draws them to discover every aspect of music.
The Musical Journey is the only system of its kind that not only emphasizes the student's skills, but also their creative expression.
SELF-PACED GOAL SETTING
Each level is broken down into manageable steps that the student will complete at their own pace. Steps include earning milestone bracelets, passing the Musical Journey Test, and creating a final project that the student chooses and tailors to their interests, sparking their creativity and cultivating independence. To track their progress, students receive a map that outlines the steps for each level.
Milestone Bracelets
Students will earn a milestone bracelet after demonstrating mastery of either a concept (solfege, rhythm, key signatures, etc.), skill (sight-reading, performance, etc.), or technique (proper set-up, staccato/legato playing etc.). While milestones have specific guidelines for each level the teacher will tailor milestones to the student so that they are appropriately challenging, yet achievable. |
The Musical Journey Test
After completing the Musical Journey Test students will receive feedback from highly qualified judges. It is administered twice a year in the Spring and Fall semesters. Students master all the concepts covered on the test by earning milestone bracelets. The test is held online, and consists of four parts: performance, technique, sight-reading, and musicianship. Judges will give constructive feedback on areas the student is excelling in and will provide guidance on any areas that need attention. If the student does not pass all parts of the test on their first try they have the opportunity to re-take the test. This is an expected part of the process and one way in which students develop a learner's mindset. |
The Final Project
The final project is an opportunity for the student to share their music with their community, and bring joy to others. It is a highly motivating experience to see the impact that their creativity can have on the world. To complete their project students will apply all the skills they developed over the course of earning bracelets and passing the test. Projects may be a live concert, an album, a performance video, or a book of original compositions. At the completion of each level students receive a trophy. |
LEVEL 1
Students at level 1 will have a great time earning milestone bracelets to build a strong foundation. At this level, the goal is for students to have an awesome experience creating their final project.

“The Musical Journey has given my students very specific goals, creating very specific and focused practice. It has also given them a great sense of accomplishment as they look to future levels. Their musicianship has improved greatly as the students listen and focus on their pieces, to give the best performance possible. I look forward to watching them grow as they pursue future levels.”
