Khatia (Qinling) Kang

Doctor of Musical Arts, Piano Performance

Khatia Kang is a classically trained pianist and piano educator currently pursuing a Doctor of Music degree in Piano Performance at Florida State University under the guidance of internationally acclaimed pianist Read Gainsford. She received her Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where she studied with renowned pianist Inesa Sinkevych. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, where she studied under Professor Bing Xu, former Chair of the Piano Department.

Born into a deeply musical environment, she began studying piano at an early age under the mentorship of Russian piano teachers, which laid a strong technical and artistic foundation for her musicianship. This early immersion in the Russian piano tradition continues to shape her expressive performance style and teaching philosophy today.

With years of teaching experience in both the United States and China, she has successfully guided students of all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced performers. Her students have consistently achieved Distinction and Merit results in ABRSM examinations across Grades 1–8. She is known for combining rigorous technical training with creativity, musical storytelling, and individualized instruction tailored to each student’s personality and goals.

As an active performer, she has appeared in solo and chamber music recitals at Florida and New York, and various concert venues in the United States. She has also participated in masterclasses with internationally recognized artists, including Sean Chen, Bronze Medalist of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
