Hyejeong Claire Kim is studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance at UT Austin with
Prof. Andrew Brownell. She began teaching students privately when she was 16 years old and
is an aspiring piano major. As a teacher, she was also engaged in the Music Eunited, a
non-profit music program that provides free lessons for elementary students with low income or
a disability. When she became the president of the Music Eunited in 2017-2018, she took the
responsibility to organize weekly tutoring, to direct students and teachers, and to plan student
recitals as well as teaching.
With the leadership and responsibility, she became an assistant manager of the MTNA UT Austin Collegiate Chapter in 2019 and organizes masterclasses. Claire is also active as a performer. She was selected to perform with the Austin Symphony Orchestra conducted by Peter Bay in 2017 and often performed in the Pianoforte, a music program performing for senior residents at retirement homes in the Austin area. She was involved as the vice-president of the Pianoforte in 2016-2017, and eventually became the president in 2017-2018. Within these positions, she recruited performers and designed fundraising concerts as continuing to perform. In 2019, she performed in masterclasses by Prof. Steven Mayer and Marina Lomazov. Most recently, she participated in the Texas State International Piano Festival in 2019. Not only performed as a soloist, but she also often collaborated with other pianists and other instrumentalists.
Claire is currently studying Piano Pedagogy with Prof. Sophia Gilmson and teaching in the Piano Project at UT. Because she enjoys sharing music with young children and respects each student individually with love, she is teaching privately and publicly at the Ivy Music Academy and the Orpheus Academy of Music.
