Madeline AndersonDoctor of Musical Arts | Piano Performance & PedagogyDr. Madeline Anderson is a classical pianist based in Austin, TX. Anderson holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music (BM ‘17), Texas State University (MM ‘19), and the University of Iowa (DMA in Piano Performance and Pedagogy '23).
Anderson passionately plays and teaches piano, and loves sharing her joy of music with others. She has taught extensively, including private lessons for children and adults, as well as collegiate teaching such as Group Piano Class, Music Theory, and private instruction for undergraduates. One of Dr. Anderson's interests is audience and listener engagement. Anderson's dissertation centered around active listening and sensory involvement – both literally and conceptually – to heighten listeners’ engagement, enjoyment, and apprehension of music. Using sensory blending as the cornerstone, Anderson developed a listening activity – Attend, Notice, Blend – and was fortunate to conduct a research study at the University of Iowa debuting her listening activity. This listening method has been an asset to Anderson’s teaching – and makes lessons creative and playful, while intellectually stimulating. When Dr. Anderson is not playing or teaching music, she can be found at the gym teaching cardio, strength, and pilates classes. |
