Taylor WangMaster of Music, Piano Performance | Bachelor of Music, Piano PerformanceAn active solo and collaborative pianist, Taylor Wang has performed across the United States and abroad in Canada, Italy, and Germany. Her solo engagements include performances at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, PianoArts North American Competition in Milwaukee, Community Concerts at Second in Baltimore, and on an episode of NPR’s From the Top, recorded at Jordan Hall in New England Conservatory. As a collaborative pianist, Taylor has regularly worked with both vocalists and instrumentalists at the Peabody Institute. She focused on vocal collaborative piano work at SongFest and Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artist Vocal Academy and has performed with chamber ensembles at New England Conservatory, Peabody Institute, and in collaboration with Golden Hornet. She is a frequent collaborator with Sound Collective, an all-inclusive choir based in Austin that uplifts the voice of disabled and neurodiverse musicians.
Taylor is passionate about sharing her love and joy for music not only through performances, but also through teaching. Her studio is currently based in Austin with private and group lesson offerings. She takes a holistic approach to teaching, taking into account each student’s personal, musical, intellectual, and emotional needs and goals. She incorporates music theory, ear-training, and all genres of music in her lessons so that the student has a well-rounded music education. She encourages her students to always be curious in their music exploration by following their lead and guiding them through their journey to discover their own passion and appreciation for music. A strong supporter of community outreach through music, Taylor is the founder and former student director of Peabody at the Shelter, which programs monthly concerts at a local shelter to bring a sense of hope and community. Her project was supported in its pilot year by the Peabody Institute’s Launch Grant with the support of the Travers Foundation and in its second year by the Johns Hopkins University Urban Health Institute’s Baltimore Health Equity Impact Grant. Previously, Taylor served as the Musician-in-Residence at Edenwald Senior Living Community and was a part of Peabody Institute’s Music for a While program to bring music to the healthcare environment. Currently, Taylor serves as the staff pianist at Trinity Church of Austin where she runs a concert series aimed at providing an accessible venue for live music. Taylor received a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Music from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University under the tutelage of Boris Slutsky, Yoshikazu Nagai, and HieYon Choi. In Taylor’s free time, she loves spending time with her two cats, Pepper and Ash, going out to concerts, and rock climbing. |
