Cuishan "Tracey" ShiDoctor of Philosophy, Music EducationCuishan (Tracey) Shi is an accomplished music educator, researcher, and performer.
She recently earned a PhD in Music Education with a minor in Child Development from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she also received her Master of Music Education degree. Dr. Shi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China. Dr. Shi was awarded a full scholarship since she started her master’s studies at IU. Dr. Shi specializes in general and choral music education. She holds certificates in both Kodály approach and Orff Schulwerk and has extensive training in Dalcroze methods. Dr. Shi has diverse teaching experiences. During her time at Indiana University, Dr. Shi taught Introduction to Music Fundamentals and The Teaching of Music in Elementary Schools to elementary education majors for 5 years. She was also a lead music teacher at the IU Music Beginnings program and a teaching assistant for IU Children’s Choir. During the summer 2021, Dr. Shi worked as a lead music teacher at San Diego Children’s Choir. Prior to her time in the United States, Dr. Shi taught elementary general music classes, several choirs, and private piano and voice lessons in Beijing. Dr. Shi is deeply engaged in research within the music education field, focusing on children’s music learning, music integration, intercultural learning, and culturally responsive/sustaining pedagogy. She has presented her research at various prestigious conferences, including the Big Ten Academic Alliance annual conference, Desert Skies Symposium on Research in Music Learning and Teaching, and the Society for Music Teacher Education Symposium. Her latest study was accepted for presentation at the International Society for Music Education World Conference. Dr. Shi believes that children should receive high-quality music education at an early age. She is a flexible teacher with different teaching approaches to meet students’ diverse needs. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys cooking and watching soccer games. |
