Helena AungDoctoral of Musical Arts, Piano Performance Helena Aung is a pianist originally from Thailand. She completed her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at the University of Arkansas and earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma. She further pursued her passion and obtained a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in December 2022.
Aung has received various scholarships and competition awards throughout her career, including the Yamaha Artist Scholarship, the Princess Galyani Vadhana Classical Music Foundation scholarship, and the Bangkok Chopin Piano Competition. She also published a dissertation titled "Martin Bresnick’s Piano Compositions: An Analysis and Performance Guide," collaborating closely with Martin Bresnick and Lisa Moore. Throughout her musical journey, Aung has collaborated with renowned artists such as Thomas Hecht, Albert Tiu, Dmitri Ratser, Lisa Moore, Martin Bresnick, Jura Margulis, Jeongwon Ham, Behzod Abduraimov, Yoonie Han, Ratko Delorko, Gustavo Romero, Roberto Plano, Pierre Réach, Michael Lewin, Antonina Dragan, Liza Stepanova, Scott McBride Smith, and Steven Spooner, further enriching her artistic development. Aung's performances have taken her to various cities in Thailand and the United States, where she has showcased her talent both as a soloist and collaborator. She frequently works alongside violinist Xun Xu and actively engages with composers to explore new music. In addition to her performance career, Aung is a committed educator with a deep passion for teaching. Her students have achieved notable success, receiving recognition in national and international competitions. Aung is dedicated to advancing pedagogy in the music industry and continuously adjusts her teaching styles and methods to meet the unique needs of her students. |
