Jessica BurtonDoctor of Musical Arts, Opera Directing
Jessica is a Soprano, Opera Stage Director, Costume Designer, Teacher and student of life. As the child of a military family, she likes to say she is from everywhere and nowhere. Notable past dramatic roles have included the Witch in Into the Woods (Stage Right Theatre, Amarillo), Fastrada in Pippin (West Texas A&M University), and Morgana in Alcina (West Texas A&M University). She has performed in the chorus of Amarillo Opera and West Texas A&M University Opera Workshop. She has directed operas here in Austin, as well as Périgueux and Angers, France. Her costume designs could be seen at Texas State University Opera in The Magic Flute (2018).
In addition to a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, she also has a Bachelor in Technical Theatre with an emphasis in Costume Design and Technology, and a Master and Doctor of Musical Arts in Opera Directing from The University of Texas at Austin. |
