Tingting Fang

Doctor of Musical Arts, Piano Performance

Yangmingting Fang (Tingting) is a classically trained piano teacher from China. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance with a secondary concentration in Piano Pedagogy at The University of Alabama. Fang enjoys being a performer, a teacher, as well as a collaborative pianist. During her time at UA, she studied under Dr. Kevin Chance and served as a collaborative pianist and assistant music director with the UA Opera Theatre. In 2019, she received the Clara Wells Fellowship from American Matthay Association. She was also named winner for the 2022 Alabama MTA Piano Auditions.

As Fang developed her interest in piano pedagogy during her DMA degree, she began to share her research interest in national and regional conferences, including the MTNA National Conference, the MTNA Collegiate Symposium, the CMS Southern Conference, the Alabama MTNA Conference, the Texas MTA Convention, the MTNA Group Piano/Piano Pedagogy Forum, and the Florida State MTA Conference.

As a teacher, shecelebrates the individuality and diversity of each student, and encourages exploration of their passions and interests. When presenting materials, she explores diverse approaches to accommodate the needs of different types of students, and ensure that all types of learners perceive their strengths and motivations during the learning process. She leads the students through guided questions, engaging exercises, and relatable activities, which creates a more worthwhile learning experience, and motivates the students to become a more independent learner.

When she is not teaching or playing the piano, she enjoys baking and discovering dessert places. She also loves skydiving and roller coasters.
