A Musical Journey - Kyle Stephens
When I first heard that I needed to do a home concert, I told my mom that I wanted it to be a party and I wanted to invite my friends. So we decided to do a pool party and serve dinner to our guests. When the guests arrived, we invited them into the piano room. My grandmother helped me make programs and my sister passed them out to our guests. I played eight songs by memory and Ms. Skye did a duet with me for Spanish Guitars. I even played a piece that I wrote, Hatchling March, that describes how the baby turtles hatch and go into the sea. After I played, I got to turn over level one on my Musical Journey’s plaque and the party began. We swam and had fresh lemonade, hotdogs, and hamburgers. My mom ran the party and my dad cooked. Now I am excited to complete level 2 because I will get to make a CD.
I really enjoyed watching my son set goals, practice 8 different pieces, and prepare a home concert. I am so glad we planned the home concert as a party because I think that music sets the tone for having fun. This program works very well for Kyle because he is so goal driven. He does not usually enjoy standing out and getting attention, so this low-key approach allowed him to be comfortable and truly enjoy himself. Kyle was relaxed and seemed to enjoy entertaining his guests. It was also wonderful to have Skye stay with us for the party and we enjoyed her company in our home.
